Anna M
Job title
Welfare Coordinator
Time at the charity
I joined the Charity Team in September 2022 but previously worked in store for 7 years and was also a health checker.
Quick summary of your role
I am responsible for making sure stores adoption council licence is up to date, and also assist Rebecca with store enquiries regarding our adoption pets. The adoption licence is new and different to a pet shop licence, so I am currently working my way through all our stores starting in Scotland to ensure each individual one gets approved. I will also visit rescue centres applying for grant applications, and keep up to date with the latest pet welfare information.
What do you love most about working at Pets Foundation?
I am new to the Foundation team but I am most looking forward to getting to work with stores and charities from a different role. Being able to help them from a welfare perspective when it comes to the overall health of the animals in the stores.
What pet do you have at home?
I have my own mini zoo at home! I have my two Staffordshire bull terriers Luna and Nellie, two horses Wonky and Brown Boy, two degus Willow and Clio, a crested gecko Harley and a goldfish and tropical fish tank. I won't list the fish names!
What’s your favourite type of pet?
I honestly can’t say I have a favourite as I love them all for individual reasons. I have previously owned a cat, rabbits, guinea pigs and hamsters as well as my current mini zoo. However Wonky my horse is 18, and I have had him since he was four so he definitely is up there with one of the most important pets in my life!
What is your most memorable rescue experience?
I haven’t had any rescue experience through the Foundation yet, but my horse Brown Boy is from Shy Lowen Horse and Pony Sanctuary. It holds a special place in my heart as I worked and volunteered there for a long time. I always love when pets that have been waiting a long time find the perfect home for life.
What are you most excited for this year at the Foundation?
I’m looking forward to getting stuck into my new role and supporting Rebecca with any general enquiries. Santa Paws is always a massive part of the charity so it will be amazing to be on the other side of it rather than in store this year!
Where are you most likely to be found in your job?
I’ll always have a cuppa close by, but I’ll be in the office or working from home with my mini zoo! I’ll be helping stores with anything they need regarding their adoption pets and making sure they have the licence to continue doing an amazing job through the adoption centre. Otherwise, I’ll be out walking the dogs or at the yard with the horses!
