Job title
Head of Charity and Community
Time at the charity
I have worked with Pets at Home since 2012 – and have been with the charity since 2018.
Quick summary of your role
I have a brilliant team that work with me, which frees me up to look at different initiatives and work on the strategy of the charity.
What do you love most about working at Pets Foundation?
I love the team that I work in, it’s a small team but a pretty great one! I love being out in Pets at Home stores speaking to colleagues about what a difference the money they raise makes. I also love going to rescues it’s the best feeling in the world when you go to a rescue that we have awarded funds to and see the difference that it has made - and it is all possible because of the amazing donations from pet lovers across the country.
What pet do you have at home?
I have two dogs called Marshall and Russell. Marshall is a seven year old Cairn Terrier who runs around the house with the children and loves snuggling them. He is best friends with my seven old daughter, who feeds him and walks him and in return he dotes on her, even waiting in her bedroom until she has gone to sleep at night! Russell is a Jack Russell (aptly named) and is fifteen years old and given his age loves nothing more than sleep and snuggles.
We also have two tree frogs – Betty and Boo the beautiful frog two! (as my older daughter calls them) they are a lovely duo and my daughter is obsessed with them and teaching me all I need to know on my frog ownership journey.
What’s your favourite type of pet?
It has to be a dog, the unconditional love from a dog is special, and especially Russell who has been at my side for 15 years before husband and children. However, I also love Donkeys – having grown up with two Donkeys – Toby and Jack, I just love donkeys and their true stubbornness! If there is ever Donkey Sanctuaries that need visiting I will knock the team over to get there!!
What is your most memorable rescue experience?
I have so many, I think my favourite experiences are where I have visited a rescue asking for funding and then I get to go back and see the difference the funds have made. Recently I was lucky enough to revisit the amazing team at Cats Whiskers in Scotland, the team there have completely transformed their rescue and operating model. The grant we awarded them was the financial aid they needed, but they transformed their rescue with the love, dedication, and determination of the team there.
What are you most excited for this year at the Foundation?
Have recently restructured the team now and rolled out our 5 year strategy I am excited to lead the team forward to deliver the strategy for the Foundation, helping to deliver the mission of creating a better world for pets and the people who love them.
Where are you most likely to be found in your job?
My job is so varied that there isn’t a standard day for me, let alone a standard week. If I am not in the office with the team, I could be working from home, visiting rescues or visiting our amazing store colleagues.
